Policies for Accepting Papers and Suggestions

The Program Committee will be guided in the selection of papers, seminars and technical, by the following criteria:  (1) quality, (2) distribution of subject matter, timeliness, popular demand, etc., (3) program balance (i.e. basic, applied research, poster, sessions etc.), and (4) broad-based membership participation.

Convention Registration Policy

Call for Papers submission presenters are required to register for the MSHA Convention. We do appreciate the time and effort it takes to prepare and present a session. In recognition of this, a special presenter registration rate will be provided with your confirmation letter, if you plan to attend additional sessions/events during the 2-day Convention. Please note that submission of the following Call for Papers, is acknowledgement of the required registration policy. 

Handouts
MSHA will place presenter handouts on the MSHA website prior to the Convention. This will permit attendees to print those handouts for sessions they plan to attend prior to arriving at the Convention. Presenters who do not provide handouts to MSHA will be responsible for providing handouts to the attendees.
  • Handouts must be sent in an electronic format to the MSHA Office.
  • Omit unnecessary images and photos. Include only those relevant to the topic. If your presentation contains a large number of images resulting in a large file, we may find it necessary to convert your handouts to text only. Please avoid presentations with dark backgrounds to eliminate utilizing a lot of ink when printing.
  • Handouts are limited to 20 pages. Handouts larger than 20 pages will be returned for editing.
  • Forward handouts to office@msha.net no later than March 16, 2018. Handouts will be posted online two weeks prior to the convention.
Description of Submission Fields

Program Abstract: The Program Abstract is the copy for printing the abstracts. It should be carefully prepared and proofread. The abstract should not exceed 250 words. Abstracts exceeding the 250 words maximum will be edited.

Learning Outcomes: Learning Outcomes are behavioral statements reflecting the knowledge/skills participants are expected to demonstrate following participation in the session. Learning Outcomes are written in the format, β€œAt the culmination of the session the participant will be able to …” (e.g., describe the function of the swallowing station, list three considerations in selecting candidates for cochlear implants.”) Click here for guidelines for Writing Measurable and Observable Learner Outcomes
Instructional Levels: All presentations must indicate level of instruction utilizing the following descriptions:

Intermediate:This level assumes the audience has general familiarity with the literature and professional practice with the area covered.
Advanced:
This level assumes total familiarity with current literature and professional practice in the area.

Biographical Sketches of All Presenters: Biographical sketches include the name of the presenters, their affiliations (i.e., practice settings), and a brief description of their qualifications for presenting the proposed session. (Note: Biographical Sketches are not vitae or resumes, but are brief narratives of no more than 50 words.)

Deadline for Submissions is October 14, 2017.

Submission of a Presentation indicates acceptance of the policies outlined above for convention registration, program content and agreement for not using the presentation as a method for selling products.

Please read all of the information below concerning AV for your presentation to ensure MSHA and you are prepared for your presentation at the hotel.

All rooms will be equipped with an LCD projector, with audio capabilities from your laptop, and one material table.

Important - Laptops are not provided - Please make arrangements to bring a computer for your presentations. MSHA will not be responsible for providing laptops on site.

MAC Users - If you are planning to connect a MAC to an LCD projector, you must bring the appropriate cords to adapt your MAC to the projector cord. The hotel does not provide MAC adaptor cords.

MAC users - please read and acknowledge the following:
I am aware as a MAC user I am responsible for bringing the appropriate adaptor cords.

PC Users - If you have a newer PC (two-three years old) check to see if your port is VGA or HDMI. If it is HDMI, you will need to either bring a converter or HDMI cord to make sure your computer connects to the LCD projector. Although hotels are beginning to supply the correct cords, not all hotels have updated their equipment to accommodate HDMI.

Internet may not be available in session rooms.  If your session is dependent on the use of the internet, please check below and the MSHA Office will contact you to determine if internet will be available.

All AV requests are subject to approval by the Convention Committee. Approval of AV requests will be provided in the Presenter Confirmation Notification.

Disclosure to Attendees All presenters will be required to provide appropriate disclosures prior to the start of their presentation. The MSHA Office will provide the required disclosure statement with your confirmation email.

To submit more than four authors, complete a second form and include only the additional authors, title of proposal and indication in the Program Abstract field that the submission is for additional authors.

Presenter Disclosures: For each author/presenter a Financial and Non-Financial Disclosure must be submitted.

Financial Disclosure

Relevant financial relationships are those relationships in which the individual benefits by receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, gift, speaking fee, consulting fee, honoraria, ownership interest (e.g., stocks, stock options, or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or other financial benefit. Financial relationships can also include “contracted research” where the institution gets the grant and manages the funds and the individual is the principal or named investigator on the grant. For all financial relationships, indicate the institution providing the funding for salary, royalties, grants, etc.

Relevant non-financial relationships are those relationships that might bias an individual including any personal, professional, political, institutional, religious or other relationship. May also include personal interest or cultural bias.
