Intermountain University Challenge: Minute to Win It Thursday, October 6 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Based upon the NBC hit series, Minute to Win It, college teams will test their “knowledge and skills” of academics and clinical skills in the “Big 9” areas of speech, language, hearing, swallowing and general communication disorders. This is a “friendly” competition between the Intermountain university student programs in communication disorders. Each team will consist of six members: four students, one faculty (clinical or academic) and one state association member. There is no limit to the number of teams that can be entered into this head-to-head competition to win the coveted title of Intermountain University Challenge Champion. All teams must register with the IMASH planning committee no later than September 30, 2011. Teams may register by emailing imash@robertcraven.com.
Tasks will follow the general format of the game show Minute to Win It. Tasks may include questions typically found on the PRAXIS examination and skills typically required of most graduate students. For example, teams might be asked a sample question from the PRAXIS test, or might be asked to phonetically transcribe a speech sample or count the number of morphemes in a language sample or perform part of a routine hearing screening ... all within a one-minute timeframe.
Each team will be awarded points for correct answers. A representative panel of judges from each state will determine the correctness of all responses and completion of tasks. The university with the most points will be awarded prizes. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place teams. Teams and audience members are encouraged to wear appropriate collegiate attire and bring their team spirit to cheer on their favorite university programs. A special award will be given to the team with the most “spirit.”
CEUs are awarded to teams and audience members.
